Background
Driven by the call to minister the gospel of the grace of God, the Stawi Christian Ministry was birthed in 2018. It started as discussion on serving the larger ministry while attending a local church. Chemo met with Emmanuel Kimaro, a graduate of Reach Tanzania Bible College for prayers and networking. Chemo was already serving part time as bible teacher reaching out to public schools in the outskirts of Dar es salaam.
A few days later, the discussion included Paul Mgaza, who had been ministering to children in schools, prisons and at his local church since 2001. It was through Paul’s connections that Chemo got the chance to minister at Wazo Secondary School for over five years.
In the discussion, it became clear that there was a great need for reaching primary, secondary schools and higher education institutions with the gospel of grace. It was clear that the need for laborers in those areas was unmet and therefore the three agreed to start a non denominational ministry which will serve without discriminating the audiences.
To start a ministry, the law in Tanzania requires at least ten founding members to agree and request for the formal registration with the government.
After several meetings and prayers, the founding members came up with the name “Stawi” which can roughly be translated as “blossom, or prosper” to embody the thinking that the audience needed the teachings of the gospel of grace to prosper.
Documentations and compiled and the application for the registration of Stawi Christian Ministry was submitted to various levels of the government. At the same time, the founding members continued to serve an expanded list of public schools and churches by invitations from friendly pastors.
Also, the founding members developed a curriculum for carrying out the mission of a teaching ministry. By the grace of God, the curriculum resulted into writing of books which are used as support resources. Visit Resources to get a copy of your online book or order a physical copy of the books available.
Moreover, the ministry continued to utilize online platforms such as facebook and youtube to reach those that could not be reached physically. More than 300 hours of audios and videos can be accessed for free from those resources.
Overtime the ministry has been partnering with other churches, denominational and non-denominational, individual partners and international ministries like Reach Global, who have provided opportunities to reach children and youths, and supported Stawi Christian Minsitry financially.
Stawi Christian Ministry is a member based, non profit, non government organization. Refer to Stawi Christian Minsitry’s Constitution and By-laws for more details on membership. One of the objectives of establishing Stawi Christian Minsitry was to invite like minded ministers to use the ministry as a vehicle for preaching the Gospel of the Grace of God further in the country of Tanzania by establishing churches under the SCM umbrella.
